Living a healthy lifestyle requires balancing both sides of the coin --fitness and nutrition. Some people are motivated to work out everyday, but don't like to watch their diet. Others eat well, but can't be motivated to get their heart rate up. And then there are the times that we can't manage to do either well.
The key is to understand your weaknesses. Understanding them allows you to do two helpful tricks-- avoid and give in.
Avoid. What types of situations are going to lead you to going off course? For me, I do love fried chicken. If I am trying to be extra careful about what I eat, I won't go to restaurants where I know I will be tempted to order the fried chicken. Try to find ways that make you avoid your temptations. If it's that you can't get off the couch once you get home from work, try to have your workout clothes ready to go. When you get home, immediately put them on before you sit down. These mental tricks are key to keeping you balanced.
Give In. You might be wondering why 'give in' follows 'avoid'. It's incredibly difficult to completely avoid your weaknesses. So when you give in, make sure it's worth it. I don't like potato chips that much, so I won't waste my cheats eating them. I do, however, love cupcakes. For me, it's worth it to have a cupcake once in a while and really enjoy it.
